Hi Dude. Today i will write post about install Alma Linux 8. This is very basic and and actually this OS installation is outdated because out there already use cloud base. In cloud base, user just click and deploy is available in 5 minutes.
Its amazing right.? 🙂
Why Alma Linux?
This is a very interesting question. In my opinion there are several things that made me choose Alma Linux.
- AlmaLinux OS is 1:1 binary compatible with RHEL® and pre-Stream CentOS. Ths is claimed that declared in website.
- Used in cPanel/WHM. As we know cPanel WHM is a Web Hosting Management company that chose Alma Linux as one of the operating systems that supports installation.
- Maintain configuration structure of server that were previously based on Centos or Redhat OS.
If we want deploy manual in our infrastructure bare metal, there is nothing wrong with this method. Ok Lets do it.
Download OS
Before starti installation, we have to downlos OS from official repo, and then burn it or copy to USB to installation.
https://mirrors.almalinux.org/isos.html. You can choose nearest repository to download.
Boot From USB or DVD
After download and copy to usb or burn to cd, we can boot it and will show installation page. Select “Install Almalinux”.
Select language
Time And Date
After finished, click “DONE”. And will redirect to main menu again.
Select “Installation Destination”. Next “Manual Partiotioning”. I am use three partition.
swap/boot- and

And then Select Minimal Install, we can add package installation needed later.
In this case, i am use DHCP for network. Or we can configure it later. After done all, we can continue “Begin Installation”.
Finished. Reboot System.
Login Terminal with User Created
Next, login terminal to access server. Verify hostname, date, networking, running service, and other. But how if we forget the password? dont worry, we can follow this article if forget root password.
